The narrative is non-existent, there are no dialogues, the bestiary is scanty, and the fights aren’t thrilling. Unfortunately, it only takes a short period of time with the controller in hand before one understands that the means used aren’t enough. I understand why they do this, it's to prevent the exploration/survival aspects from becoming trivial, but it can suck the wind of things if you die and lose more progress than you think. Prey for the Gods er et action-eventyrspill utviklet av No Matter Studios. Praey for the Gods could have reached the good game category. If you die, you will lose quite a bit of progress. My biggest frustration so far is the save system and the lack of checkpoints. So you can jump and glide off a structure and then aim the bow in free-fall and it will go slow-mo and you can land some fancy bow shots.
Pro tip, if you aim the bow in the air it will go into slow-mo.
There hasn't been a lot of it yet but it's fairly straightforward so far. I got a sneak peak at another god off in the distance and that one seems like it could be cool as hell, but we'll see.Ĭombat against regular enemies is pretty basic. It was a solid fight but it used a mechanic that's been done a lot in other games so it didn't feel all that special. The second one I found was more mechanically interesting but not overly impressive. First one is rather simple and is a tutorial type of boss. I'm being purposely vague because half the fun is stumbling upon these for yourself. Maybe it's because I haven't watched much footage but I was not expecting to see things I've seen. I'm surprised by the unexpected things the game throws at you. I've spent the majority of my time just running around and exploring, upgrading my gear, and discovering. You can climb pretty much anything, stamina permitted, so you have a lot of freedom in how you approach things. And I'm glad I did because I had a really intense sequence of events at night in an unexpected snow storm on the verge of death looking for a light source (cold damages and can kill you in Hard mode). The game leans more heavily into the survival aspects then Shadow, so you'll be scavenging and crafting a lot but 'm also playing on Hard mode since it seemed like the better choice. I unexpectedly stumbled upon one of gods (colossus) in a somewhat hidden area which felt cool.
The game pushes you down a specific path but I've been completely ignoring it and exploring at my own leisure. It will also feel different depending on the surface you're on. It does the thing were it vibrates a little on one side of the controller with each step. Triggers are used for bows and hook shot, pretty standard implementation. It's hard to say though since the game goes heavy on post-processing effects but it's definitely not 4K. Possibly using dynamic res scaling too since there were a few times the game looked extra soft. Resolution is about 1440p if I had to guess. it's running at 60FPS and so far it's been smooth and consistent. I put in about two and a half hours into the PS5 version.
